Hearing Aid Fitting
Hearing aids are much like shoes - the right fit can make all the difference in the world. PEI takes great pride in fitting patients with hearing aids that meet their unique needs.
Your new hearing aids will be programmed based on the results of your hearing test, your individual preferences and unique listening environments. Your audiologist will fine-tune your hearing instruments to help you hear in a variety of situations that are specific to your lifestyle, including hearing in restaurants, crowds and other difficult listening situations. Because hearing is subjective; you may have friends with the same hearing loss as you who prefer to have their hearing aids programmed differently.
PEI uses Real Ear Measurements, a hearing aid fitting process that uses probe microphones and live real-time speech. This fitting technique allows our audiologists to customize your hearing aid fitting to your individual hearing needs.
Follow-up Care for Your Hearing Aids
We love helping people reconnect with those they love through better hearing, so we want you to get the most from your hearing aids. To ensure your success, we will schedule follow up visits to further customize your hearing aids for the environments where you are doing well and those that are more challenging. Your hearing aids will be adjusted based on your experience with them, so your follow up appointments are critical.
Becoming accustomed to wearing hearing aids
In most cases, hearing loss develops over many years, so becoming reacquainted with sounds while using hearing aids takes time and practice. For some patients, they can adjust in just a few days, but we find most people need a few weeks to a few months to really adjust to their newfound ability to hear.
Taking the time to properly adjust to your new hearing aids, is well worth it and PEI is here to support you through the process.
Getting The Best Sound From Your Hearing Aids
To get the maximum benefits from your hearing aids, we recommend you do the following:
Wear your hearing aids as much as possible. The more you wear them, the faster you will become accustomed to them. This allows you to provide valuable feedback to your audiologist so we can make proper adjustments.
Be patient. Sometimes getting the best results from your hearing aids takes two or three visits.
Repairing Your Hearing Aids
All hearing aids purchased at PEI come with a warranty. If we are not able to fix your hearing aid in our clinic, we will be happy to send it off to the manufacturer for repair.
If we have to send your hearing aid off for repair, we are happy to provide you with a temporary loaner hearing aid.
