Having a severe hearing loss for over 60 years of my life and spending 12 years in speech therapy, I know the importance of the ability to hear and understand to compete in society. Since having my cochlear implants, I have been better able to compete with my peers who do not have disabilities. PEI provides a great way for infants and young children with hearing loss to adapt in society by educating them in oral (listening and spoken) communication skills. There is no other organization where I have made contributions of time and resources that I have felt more satisfaction from contributing than at PEI.
