Oral Deaf Educator

Shauna is an Oral Deaf Educator at PEI. She has over 40 years of experience as a Deaf Education teacher in the classroom, as an itinerant teacher, and as a Reading Intervention Specialist. Shauna received her Bachelor of Arts in Speech with a teaching certification in Deaf Education from Texas Tech University, and Masters of Science in Speech Communications from Texas Woman’s University. She has a passion for teaching reading and language, especially incorporating oral speech and auditory listening skills in hearing impaired children.

Shauna enjoys music, being active and swimming, DIY projects, playing with her two dogs, and anything outdoors. She is also a certified swim instructor and loves to teach swimming in the summer! Her daughter Jessica and son-in-law Marco are both classical musicians living in Albuquerque. Prior to joining PEI, Shauna lived in Tyler, Texas and worked for the Tyler Independent School District. She is excited to be part of the Albuquerque community, be closer to family, and work with the wonderful staff, students, and families of the Presbyterian Ear Institute!
