Karl L. Horn, M.D., Chairman Emeritus & Medical Director
Though he founded the Presbyterian Ear Institute in 1987, Dr. Horn has recently joined the Staff as Medical Program Director. Prior to working at PEI, Dr. Horn was the President of Ear Associates, P.C, an interdisciplinary clinical practice for Audiology and Otology, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery.
Dr. Horn is board certified in otolaryngology. He is affiliated with several regional as well as national organizations including the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, the American Neurotology society, and the American Otologic Society. In addition he is a member of the prestigious American Triologic Society.
As a researcher, Dr. Horn has over sixty articles and book chapters to his credit. He is also credited with the development of the Horn Endo-Otoprobe, a small, hand-held laser used for ear surgery. He has participated in a number of research projects and FDA clinical trials and started working with cochlear implants in the early 1980s. He helped set up the first cochlear implant program in India in 1995.
Dr. Horn graduated from the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio. He completed his residency in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery at the University of California in San Francisco, followed by a neurotology fellowship at the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles.
