Position Summary

Presbyterian Ear Institute Oral School (PEIOS) located in beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico has the opportunity for an Oral Deaf Educator to join our team. We are an oral school, we teach deaf and hard-of-hearing children to listen, learn, and speak through the use of innovative teaching plans for children with any type of hearing loss, who use hearing aids and/or cochlear implants, or who have speech delays. The teacher will lead a Pre-K classroom of 8-9 students and is responsible for supporting the development of our students listening and spoken language skills as well as the facilitation of personal, social, and intellectual development of the students in our preschool program.

Essential Functions

• Develop and implement lessons appropriate to deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech delayed students
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques (storytelling, phonemic awareness, handwriting, educational play, media, use of curricula, etc.)
• Write and submit weekly lesson plans
• Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
• Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve conflicts
• Guide children develop skills to identify shapes, numbers, colors, art etc.
• Track children’s progress using protocols such as The New Mexico Early Learning Guidelines, The Ages and Stages Questionnaire, and The Westby Play Scale
• Communicate with parents regularly about their child’s progress
• Collaborate with our other educators
• Maintain a clean and organized classroom consistent with health & safety standards
• Facilitate snack/lunch/recess hours & supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
• Minimal lifting of children and assisting in potty-training

Requirements

• Degree in Deaf Education
• Teaching license or eligibility for licensure
• Background in oral deaf education/Listening & Spoken Language, preferred
• Experience teaching preschool age children is preferred
• Willingness to learn Listening and Spoken Language techniques and principles
• Excellent understanding of child development principles & preschool educational methods
• Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
• Excellent communication and instructional skills

Essential Functions

• Administer diagnostic hearing tests and audiological evaluations/assessments
• Experienced in fitting and dispensing of hearing aids and/or other listening devices and accessories (adult and older children)
• Maintain timely and accurate patient records by completing chart notes, recording and updating evaluations, changes, progress, and treatments.
• Other services you may provide:
  Implantable Services (Cochlear Implant, Baha, Ponto)
  Public outreach and marketing, including community events, health fairs, and other events.

Requirements

Position Summary

Presbyterian Ear Institute (PEI) is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Director of Audiology to join our team. The right person will have a strong interest in supporting the community through non-profit work, PEI is a 501c3 non-profit organization that includes an Oral School, Speech and Audiology clinic that has been helping people with hearing loss statewide for over 30 years. Our mission is to assist people with hearing loss to better listen and speak and integrate in mainstream society. The Director of Audiology’s responsibilities include staff supervision, clinic protocol design, program development, and equipment selection and maintenance. Provides direct diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology care.

Essential Functions

• Manages the Audiology Department, including the supervision of the audiology staff
• Objectively evaluates/documents performance of assigned personnel and takes corrective action as appropriate; counsels and coaches employees
• Continuously monitors audiology budget and staffing, and adjusts as appropriate to meet various clinical care and financial objectives.
• Monitors and reports revenues and expenses on an on-going basis. Takes appropriate action to ensure department is within budget guidelines.
• Develops, plans, and schedules clinic workflow.
• Provides leadership regarding how to best meet audiologic needs of PEI’s patients
• Ensures that protocols are consistent with standards and guidelines of the profession
• Directs program development, provides in-services and consultation to other staff providers, related professionals, and the community
• Selects and maintains clinical equipment
• Oversees maintaining of audiology department data and records, both paper and digital
• Provides diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services to patients of all ages
• Counsels patients about hearing health and the possible need for treatment
• Maintains timely and accurate patient records by completing and updating chart notes, evaluations, and treatment plans
• Effectively collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to provide individualized care
• Practices within PEI’s established professional code of ethics
• Public outreach and marketing, including community events, health fairs, and other events.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Audiology (Au.D. or Ph.D.)
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience, with at least 2 years in a management role supervising staff
• An active New Mexico Audiology license upon date of hire
• Must work well in a fast-paced and highly-collaborative environment

Position Summary

Presbyterian Ear Institute Oral School has the opportunity for a qualified Pre-K Teacher to join our teaching team! First day of work is July 29th, 2024. We follow a public school type schedule, we are closed for breaks and summer, time during closures is paid. The teacher is responsible for leading a class of preschool age students, delivering age‐ appropriate lessons per New Mexico Pre-K curriculum, providing direct supervision and active engagement of our students in language-rich learning activities within a fun-filled, supportive environment. Our students are a mix of children with hearing loss, speech delays, and typically developing peer models. Please note, all of our students speak, we do not use sign language at our school.

Teacher hours are Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm, students instructional hours are from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm.

Salary Range: $35,000-$50,000 annually. Breaks Ana summers are fully paid.

We are searching for full-time Educational Assistants to join our Pre-K classrooms! First day of work is June 29th, 2024. Our school is open Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm (7:30-8:30 is before care and 3:30-5pm is after care). Shifts are full-time Monday - Friday, start and end times vary. The school is closed for holidays, school breaks, summer break. As an hourly employee, you will be unpaid during those closures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of High School diploma
• Must be willing to enroll in college courses towards Early Childhood Education degree, required
• Strong desire to work with preschool age students
• Must be able to pass background check
• Must have the ability to get on the floor to play, and to lift young children

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Assisting teachers with preparation and/or delivery of instructional material; music and games, art, reading, math activities, etc.
• Assisting in one-on-one and small group activities;
• Assisting in caring for student needs: May include such duties as feeding, cleaning, toileting, clothing changes, and assisting with other daily living activities;
• Assisting in management of students who may be disruptive or combative;
• Assisting with supervision of students on the playground, cafeteria, restrooms, etc.
• Participating in staff meetings, in-service training, and other school activities
• Performing clerical duties for teachers;
